Fat Jack Slam

Fat Jack Slam is not your generic wedding band, and that is the point. We play across rock, pop, funk, soul, reggae, country and disco, with a vintage feel and a live, authentic sound. Most people who book us come on a recommendation from someone who has seen us, and most of them are surprised: not what they expected from a wedding band.

The playlist has one clear rule: timeless classics. Songs that every age group in the room knows, even when they don't know the title, because they have heard them somewhere all their lives. We rarely play a song exactly as the record has it. We cover it our own way, sometimes in a different genre, we run songs into each other as medleys, and we let ourselves drift into a jam when the floor is with us. It stays a party set with the dance floor in charge, but there's a touch of the psychedelic in it, and the audience seem to like being surprised.

Then there are the things you don't hear other bands play. Instrumentals like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Misirlou, a James Bond theme, Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid, slipped in between the songs where nobody expects them.

What makes it work is the musicians: players who listen to each other and have the freedom to take a song somewhere else. We rehearse, and we don't jam for the sake of it, but we have given ourselves creative freedom, which is where most cover bands stop.
